Water Register is operated by 2809826 Alberta Inc. It is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of Alberta, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA), or the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).
Licence registry rows are derived from Environment and Protected Areas open data published under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.
Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.
The export lists active authorizations. Inactive licences are not in the current search index. Energy-sector licences filed through AER may be incomplete in the EPA export. Verify every authorization in the Environmental Records Viewer before filing.
The Environmental Records Viewer (ERV) is the official source for licence applications, authorizations, and supporting documents. Water Register does not scrape ERV at runtime. Transfer dossiers marked ERV verified mean Water Register staff confirmed selected fields in ERV on the date shown. That badge is not a government seal.
Open and closed watershed labels are editorial summaries based on public Water Management Plans, Alberta.ca guidance, and SSRB closure orders. They are reference context, not EPA filings.
Completed transfer cases combine EPA open-data signals, municipal and press sources, and manual ERV research. Each published case lists its sources where available. Unless marked ERV verified, a sold-archive entry is researched context, not a confirmed government record.
Buy and sell posts are user-submitted intent notices moderated by Water Register. They are not EPA licence records and are not offers from Water Register.
Pro licence detail maps use OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database Licence. Diversion coordinates in the EPA export may be quarter-section centroids when a precise diversion point is not on file.
Government and Water Register data are provided as reference material without warranty. Alberta.ca states that water allocation licences are public information but should be verified against original records before decisions. See our Terms of use.
